Sunday School

We have Sunday school for all age levels before the worship service from 9:30 - 10:15. This is a time when people gather together within their age groups to develop a better understanding of scripture, to grow in their faith, and to prepare their hearts and minds for worship.

We also have a nursery for infants and toddlers during Sunday school and worship.

Children and Youth Education

The Pre-K through high school students work with the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum which follows the lectionary of the worship service. Their dedicated teachers also gear subjects and curriculum appropriately towards the needs and issues of their classes.

Adult Education

During the Sunday school hour, adults can chose from classes that meet simultaneously. Adults are free to attend different ones on a weekly basis or remain in one class for the duration. The classes currently being offered are:

Faith in the world Class

The Faith in the World class deals with social and moral issues that are taking place in today's world. Topics range from environmental issues to advocates for children with disabilities, from history about our church to Baptist denominational issues. This class helps to answer questions: What happens when our community of faith leaves church on Sundays? How does our faith guide and enrich our lives as we scatter into the world? This class provides information for the student's understanding and continued development.

Nurturing our Faith Class

The Nurturing Our Faith group provides an opportunity to discuss what is happening in the world and in our lives. Each week, scripture provides our starting point. By paying attention to how it might have been heard by those who first heard it, we look for connections to living a life of faith today. Whether you are a veteran of Bible study or find the Bible a troubling mystery (or both), these Sunday morning discussions can provide a valuable space to explore what is most important to you.

Education Throughout the Year

Education can be seen and heard throughout the year at First Baptist Church in Newton. We hold intergenerational programs for all age groups. We have a weekly children's fellowship after the children's message in the worship service. Twice a month, the youth fellowship (6th grade - 12th grade) meet for fellowship, dinner, and bible study. There are regular educational opportunities such as: Growing in Faith youth series, small group bible studies, and increased intergenerational programs. We include education through the implementation of Lenten and Advent devotionals, Hope and Healing Services, and Lenten bible studies. Watch for more information as the year progresses.
