Bessie Moore Pickersgill (1877-1967)
Bessie Moore Pickersgill, one of six sisters and four brothers, was married In Newton Centre in 1902. She graduated from Boston University in 1899. She was Secretary to the Massachusetts and Rhode Island YWCA and owned and operated a shop on 61 Lincoln Street in Newton Highlands called “Knit One-Purl One.”
She was the long-time Secretary to the Mather Class. She wrote every annual report for it, detailing the attendance, multiple activities, guests, and topics. The final paragraph to each report had a spirit and sensitivity beyond simple reporting: Here is an example from her report in 1932:
